Sophomores: check out these pictures of the Globe Theater

These are pictures of the Globe in London. This is not the original theater, which burned down long ago, but the replica built in the 1990s. When you're in London you can go see a traditional production there. The best seats are the cheapest. They are only 5 pounds (about $10), but you have to stand in the yard just like an authentic groundling. Most of these pictures will enlarge when you click on them.

The audience can really get involved. they're right to the very edge of the stage. I wonder how distracting that might be for the actors.

The shows you saw there must have been amazing, like you said they must have had to be truely good at acting to have a good performance with few scenery.

It looks exactly like it did in the movie we saw! It must be a lot of fun to be in the audience, because the actors are so close to you.

It's so neat. I wish that I could go visit it some day. I was in a play once. It was nerveracking enough when the audience was in the dark. I'd get stage fright if I was able to see the audience.

It looks really different from each angle. You can fit a lot of people in there.

That looks so cool, i think being able to stand and put your arm right on the stage is the coolest thing. it would be so much fun to actually be a part in the play while being in the audience.

My family and I saw this when we went to London. I remember the tour guide telling us that the part in the movie "Shakespeare in Love" where the queen visits the theatre isn't historically accurate. The actors would always go to the queen, not the other way around.

I think it would suck to try and watch a play while standing up, especially when it is raining.

These pics are really cool. When i was in london, we were just in that part of town heading down to the Tower of London and i just took a picture and walked right past it because i had no idea that they actually had shows there!!

Those pictures are amazing! I can't believe that there are still plays preformed there. The actors would have to be able to speak really loud.

Hey Mr. Wilson...

Can you say STAGE FRIGHT?!!! I can hardly imagine performing in front of a large audience when they're in the dark, let alone practically lounging on the stage. Not to mention the fact that back then it was appropriate to throw objects (i.e. tomatoes, cabbage, etc.) at the actors when they were not up to standards. The closer they are the more it probably hurts! I must say it is probably a pretty liberating experience to perform in, or even attend, a play in such an important theater. To be in a building containing such a grand amount of literate history would be amazing...I'm putting it on the To Do list for Psychology of Achievement!

Hey Mr. Wilson! :-D Those are great pictures! My favorite one is the last one! What a difference between today and back then! The Globe Theater is pretty amazing! Wow! I thought it was way expensive to see a performance but its not! Thats good! AWESOME! So if you go to Englad you can easily get to see any plays from Shakepeare? Wow, GREAT!!!

These pictures are amazing!!!
It must have been really hard for the upper-class people to see from the balcony area... THat's a lot higher up and further away than I had thought!!

It actually looks like a globe!!
you would have thought poor people would have to sit up high so like the rich people could be right by the stage

That would be really cool to be right up next to the actors instead of up in the nose bleed section where you have to use binoculars. It's so fancy in the theaters in England compared to here!

I think it is wierd how today people pay so much for front row seats, where as back them the front was for the poor and the back balcony was for the rich.

Hey Mr. Wilson!

I love how decorative all of the wood work is! I can't imagine having all of that hard work burn down... it's amazing how they rebuilt it though! Shakespeare would be proud. =) Thanks for all of the pictures!
