Mr. Wilson,
Hi it's Tiffany here from your 3rd period English class. On Friday we had a debate and you said we should have brought up examples to connect with real life to defend our topic. Well I had a pretty strong one that I would just really want to get out of my system...especially since I was in it. In the summer of 2003 there was a black out on the East coast. Something to do with an explosion near the power lines. This effected people in the United States and Southern Ontario. Our group was defending the fact that in a time of crisis we need to give up some of our personal rights. The black out is a good example I think because at that time, all the radios informed the citizens to be careful on what we use being that there was not electricity. A simple example from this example would be the stop lights. Since the electricity was out we wouldn't have any red lights to speed past. We were told to try to stay at home and save the drive unless there was a real emergency. If people did go out and drive, without the stop lights it'd be extremely dangerous for obvious reasons. But it's not illegal to drive so no one could stop anyone if we did. But driving is a privilege, AND a right. So by giving up a little personal right to drive we're helping the community but keeping it safe. And it's not like it's taken away for ever. Once the black out was over, we got it back, the whole thing.
So ya that's basically what I planned on saying but drifted off to saying something else (sorry about the horrible rebuke speech that I gave by the way I guess i'll just have to work on thinking on my feet a little more.)

For the debate, I stand by what I said in class; that there are times when the government should be able to take rights when their is danger to the community, and there are times when the government shouldn't be able to take away rights. Both of the sides have a valid point, and both views can exist with each other. I like your example Tiffany. Your rebuke speech was not horrible though.

I just realized that this was the "Due Dates" Section. Have we turned in our notebooks yet? I thougth we were supposed to a while ago, but I still have mine, and we were still taking notes in them.
Quick question about turnitin.com. Is there a way we can see what you see and see how much was plaguerized? I'm interested in seeing that stuff but yeah if there is a way you can get back to me about that one please do
That's a good question Brian. That would be cool to see what Turnitin said about our papers. I doubt there is a way to, but it would be interesting.
I would love to see that! I have always wondered what would happen when my paper is turned in.
There is a way to show you, but the teacher has to set it in preferences. I've chosen not to give access to it. However, if you are really interested, let me know and I will print out an "Originality Report" for you.
