I don't quite understand how scholars are coming up with these ideas; they seem a little far-fetched. The reason for the lack of information about his past is that it happened happened hundreds of years ago and it has probably been lost.

I'm not decided either way. Up until today I never had any doubt Shakespeare was the one who wrote all the classics. This evidence is interesting. It is strange how a normal "commoner" of Stratford could know over 29,000 words and be so well educated. On the other hand, these people could be over-analyzing and ignoring how genious he was.

My mother said it best when she said: "Please...let dead people be dead!" I think that knowing 29,000 words sounds like a lot...but what words are we including? There are SO many simple words out there that everyone knows...there are 33 words (so far) in this tiny comment. When you factor in that he made up his own words...yeah, i bet I know 29,000 words too if I'm allowed to make them up. I don't think who gets credit for writing plays that plague high schoolers for four years is worth spending this much time on...(she says hypocritically after spending time commenting on this to get a little balck dot on a pink sheet of paper...)

This article talks about some interesting things having to do with shakespeare. It is quite a mystery and i am undecided on what side to take. I would rather believe that he was the true genious, rather than possibly the biggest hoax in writing history.

I think that this is interesting. I understand why people think this way, it makes sense for people to. How would he know all these vocabulary especially when he was just a commoner. I think if people should actually find outt he truth, but at the same time he's dead so i dont think that would be nice but i guess it doesn't really to me if he wasn't the guy that wrote it.

I think the arguments from each side are very interesting. However, I don't think either side provides conclusive evidence that Shakespeare was or was not the writer. 29,000 words is a lot of words though . . .

That was Josh Gensler by the way.

i had never herd that Shakespeare might not have written his plays until today. But after reading the evidence it does sound a little strange that such a commoner could compose such brilliant plays and such. But some people just might posses such ingenuity to create these plays.

The ideas these scholars are coming up with really are far fetcehed. You said Shakespeare caame up with word and this could explain why he had such a huge vocabulary. Also if he was an actor for a while he could of picked up a vary large vocabulary form the works he was preforming. That is the way most people learn a new languge you use it as much as possible and the lack of evidence is common because most people didn't have their lifes recorded on Myspace for everyone to know about.

I think it's funny how there are all these theories that shakespeare didn't write his plays. I think everyone is just jealous of his amazing abilities, so, they make stuff up to discredit him.

I think the biggest problem is that all the evidence brought up is speculative or circumstantial. If people are going to say one way or the other, I think there should be concrete evidence proving a side. Otherwise, we could be unjustly taking credit from the rightful person and placing it on someone that doesn't deserve it.
