I think its unbelievable how much we have compared to the people that live in these shaks of shanty town. And many of us take what we do have for granted. These pictures opened my eyes to everything that i have. And how grateful we should be.
This makes me so sad- But extremely grateful for everything we're blessed with here in the U.S. It's truly amazing- I don't even think some of the people in society today can even fathom living without things like TV, or telephones- when they would consider themselves lucky just to have a place to sleep at night. -Emily C. What a depressing place to have to wake up to every day. People must have been in extreme desperation to have no other option than to build these shanty towns. The fact that this can be called a town is the scary part. So many people had no place to live.
These pictures of Shantytown really make me more greatful for what I have now. I think of the children living there and it makes me not want to take for granted what I have. I wish that I could somehow help them
It is hard for us to believe that people live in such a way. We take for granted well of we are, but here we see people who have almost nothing except a few peices of our junk.
Gosh. I can't imagine what it would be like having to grow up in a place like that or even live there. It really does make you think about all that we have and how many times we complain about something we want just because we don't have it...
It is very shocking to see that people still live in these kinds of conditions and are forced to work all day to make ends meets just to come home to a run down make shift house.
Its really sad to see people that live in these type of things. And to think that we complain if we dont get that pair of jeans we want or getting that cool new phone is really bad. Because until we live like these people do, we have no reason to complain
I agree with everyone else that these pictures are sad, and it must be a terrible place to live. But, what i find even more upsetting is there dosen't seem to be much being done about this poverty....
It is hard to believe that there are people in the world that live in that. Imagine the sickness and unsanitary living conditions that people must deal with when living there.

Wow...Reality check! It is unfathomable to me people living in conditions such as these. Most of the people in the U.S. that are considered poor are better of than the people living in Shanty Towns, and to think that this is the norm for many of the residents. I have to say, the first picture looks just like a skyview of the Hurricane Katrina wreckage and those homes were considered dangerous to even enter, can you imagine living in such conditions on a regular basis? Thankfully none of us have to experience living in like that, but its time we stop taking what we have for granted and think about helping people less fortunate than us.

This makes me feel lame for complaning about small insignificant things. Paton does a good job describing Shantytowns.
