Wed 3/5

I was out of the building on Wednesday. Here are the plans I left for the substitute:

Block 1, Senior English:

  1. Vocab warm up: Give out vocab list and have students identify parts of speech for first ten words.
  2. Students watch Act 5 scene 2 of Hamlet (the Kenneth Branagh version). Ian can help you set up projector.
  3. Students can do a peer review of their essay of definition using the rubrics on the back of the sample, or they may simply continue to draft the essay. Tell them final draft is due next Monday.
  4. HW: read World War I background. Highlight ten most interesting facts/ statements.

Blocks 2 and 4, Pre IB Sophomore English:

  1. Grammar review in notebook. Students may write their answers out or simply do the exercises in their head if they wish. This is a review for the upcoming test. In the purple language textbook they should do the following exercises: p. 831 ex4 #1-10; p. 834 ex 5 #2, 8; p. 837 ex 6 #1-10

  1. Students are in the early stages of their essays on The Crucible. I’ve left a copy for you of the eleven essay questions they have to choose from. They may use the rest of the period to do one or both of these two things: gather evidence from the text relevant to topic (take notes, use sticky notes to mark pages, etc); begin planning essay (I’ve left outlines you can give to students who are ready for this stage). They may listen to their Ipods during this time if they wish.
